Blackwing Foundation Partners with TeachRock for Distance Learning Inititative

The Blackwing Foundation is proud to announce its newest national partnership. We’re teaming up with Rock and Roll Forever Foundation to help adapt elements of their extensive TeachRock curriculum to provide a fun and easy to use distance learning series.

TeachRock, the brain child of rocker Steven Van Zandt’s Rock and Roll Forever Foundation, brings rich, multimedia educational materials to teachers and students everywhere–at no cost. The extensive lesson plan collections and resources at teachrock.org help over 30,000 teachers nationwide engage students by connecting the history of popular music to classroom work across the disciplines. From social studies and language arts to geography, media studies, science, general music, and more, TeachRock has engaging and meaningful arts integration materials for every classroom.  Nationwide about 30,000 teachers have registered on site for their free resources and comprehensive lesson plans.

With the new distance learning series, TeachRock is providing an easier way for teachers, parents and students to utilize their at home activities. Includoing an intial launch of 5 Activities each with various worksheets and learning links that students can use to explore the content.  One example close to our heart is a lesson on Synesthsia, titled Drawing to Music, which explores how one medium(music) influences another (drawing and painting).  It even includes a link to a YouTube Synesthesia Playlist that explores different music genres and encourages kids to draw to the music and see how that influences their creative expression.

Blackwing Foundation has provided an Ignite the Arts Grant to support Rock and Roll Forever Foundation at this crucial time when many non-profits are working on ways to keep the doors open and provide their much-needed services to their communities.

Along with our namesake sponsor Blackwing, the Blackwing Foundation will be  partnering in the coming days with TeachRock to implement some fun ways to engage parents, teachers and students using this new distance learning series.  So follow and stay tuned into these various social channels @teachrockorg,  @blackwingfoundation and @blackwing to keep up with what these organizations are doing to support arts and music education.
