NATIONAL PARTNER: TEACH ROCK

Teach Rock brings learning alive with music, giving educators, parents, and community groups hundreds of free lesson plans. The curriculum has been recognized by The Washington Post, The New Yorker, and Education Week. Founder Stevie Van Zandt empowers teachers to connect music, classrooms, and student experiences.

More than 60,000 educators from over 30,000 schools in all 50 U.S. states and beyond have registered with TeachRock.org.

The Harmony Program

For the past three years, TeachRock has piloted its new Student Wellness Program, Harmony. This program uses the universal appeal of music to deliver Daily Harmony Lessons. Each lesson unit focuses on five key competencies: self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills, responsible decision-making, and social awareness.

TeachRock is unique because it creates a shared experience for the whole school. Each day, the school community listens to the same music, has meaningful conversations, and participates in personal reflections.

Daily Harmony Lessons promote essential skills while building a sense of community. Learning with TeachRock becomes a source of school-wide pride where everyone is part of something larger and more impactful.

HOW THE BLACKWING FOUNDATION IS HELPING

The Blackwing Foundation has been working closely with the Harmony Program team, donating Blackwing Slate Notebooks to be used by students engaged in the Harmony Program.  Additionally, the foundation sponsored the Harmony Program teacher training for local school, John McCandless STEM Charter School of Stockton, CA- the first school along the West Coast to commit to the Student Wellness Program. Shortly after starting the program, Steven Van Zandt himself came to Stockton, CA to view the program in action. He spent time in classrooms, talking with students and teachers- hearing about the impact of Harmony. View the news coverage on Steven’s visit here. We will continue to champion Harmony and are dedicated to recruiting additional schools to commit to the program.
